01 · The suburbMoving in Freshwater
Freshwater is a tightly held beach village just north of Manly, low churn, long-held, and the place where Australian surfing began. On 24 December 1914 Duke Kahanamoku, the Hawaiian Olympic swimming champion, shaped a board from sugar pine here and gave the first surfing exhibition Australia had ever seen, at Freshwater Beach; the board he used is still held by the Freshwater Surf Club and a NSW Heritage Blue Plaque marks the event. That history shapes how the suburb sees itself, it is a village, not a tourist strip, and the moves here reflect it: careful, unhurried, whole-house jobs in cottages and beach apartments where people tend to stay a long time. The access challenge is the narrow beach-access streets and limited beachfront parking: a full-size truck often cannot get a clean run to the door, so we scout a loading position, keep the carry short and work around the time-limited beachfront. Pittwater Road is the access artery north and south.

Every Freshwater move starts with the access, because that is what decides the truck, the crew and the timing. Here is what we plan around:
- The birthplace of Australian surfing, Duke Kahanamoku’s first exhibition was at Freshwater Beach on 24 December 1914 (NSW Heritage Blue Plaque)
- Narrow beach-access streets and limited beachfront parking mean the truck often cannot reach the door, a loading spot is scouted ahead
- A genuine village: low churn, long-held cottages and beach apartments, careful whole-house moves
- Pittwater Road is the access artery; there is no removal-truck parking permit here, so timing and a scouted spot do the work
Send us the pickup and drop-off addresses with your quote and we will tell you exactly how we would handle your move, including the loading spot, the carry and any lift, staircase or slope that needs a plan.

04 · Parking & permitsParking and permits across the Manly precinct
This is the fact that shapes every Manly-precinct move: there is no parking permit for a removal truck anywhere on the Northern Beaches. Northern Beaches Council runs a Manly Parking Permit Scheme, but it explicitly excludes trucks (along with motor homes, buses, caravans and trailers), and the resident beach permits cover a car, not a Pantech, and aren’t valid in metered zones anyway. On the beachfront, North Steyne, South Steyne and the Queenscliff end, there is a 4-hour metered limit that applies regardless of any permit, so a truck cannot stand outside a beach-side block all day. And in the centre of Manly, The Corso has been a pedestrian mall since 1979, so a truck physically cannot drive through it to reach a beach-side address. So the realistic, legal approach is the one we use every day: park the truck legally, scout the best loading position off the metered frontage before the day, route around The Corso where the address is beach-side, and work efficiently to the limit. On the steep harbour suburbs it is the carry and the driveway that decide the day, not a permit you could buy if one existed. (Council’s permit rules and fees are theirs and can change, confirm current details with Northern Beaches Council.)
05 · QuestionsFreshwater removals: common questions
Can the truck get to the door in Freshwater?
Often not directly. The streets running down to Freshwater Beach are narrow with limited beachfront parking, so a full-size truck frequently cannot get a clean run to the door. We scout a loading position off the congested beachfront approach, keep the carry as short as the street allows, and work around the time-limited beachfront. There is no removal-truck permit here, so timing and a good spot do the work.
What makes a Freshwater move different?
It is a genuine village, low churn, long-held cottages and beach apartments where people stay for decades. So the moves tend to be careful, unhurried whole-house jobs. It is also the birthplace of Australian surfing: Duke Kahanamoku gave his first exhibition at Freshwater Beach on 24 December 1914, and the board he shaped is still held by the Freshwater Surf Club.
How do you handle the narrow streets?
We plan the approach and the loading spot before the day rather than discovering the street is too tight on arrival. Pittwater Road is the access artery north and south, and from there we work in to the scouted position and keep the carry tight and protected.
How much does a Freshwater move cost?
Our online-quote rates start at $200/hour for two movers and a truck ($250 for three, $400 for a larger crew with two trucks), and you get a clear indicative quote up front for your specific move. No surprises on the day.
